Pulsar Launch Luxeos to the World!
Our day in London at the world-renowned Science Museum began early as the team arrived to install the fantastic new Luxeos range of fixtures ready to unveil to the world. With the Luxeos product family consisting of the Luxeos9, Luxeos18 and Luxeos36 flood lights in both variable colour options and variable white options along with the our very latest addition, the Luxeos Linear at 500+ lumens/300mm with a CRI of 90+ available in 300mm, 600mm, 900mm and 1200mm flicker free lengths, there was a lot see. To make the event even more exciting we collaborated with mycoocoon who were kind enough to bring a mycoocoon pod used in conjunction with reflexology and special treatments against tiredness, stress and other things related to modern life. Pharos also demonstrated their award winning intelligent lighting control solution which was associated with the @pulsarlightuk twitter account enabling anyone, anywhere to change the colour of the lighting at the event. Does lighting change our perception of wine?
e-Luminate 2017 saw the return of a fun and unusual experiment which first took place back in 2015. This fun experiment was to prove when it comes to drinking wine, would changing the lighting conditions influence our perception of wine? Guests had the pleasure of indulging in an evening of tasting a range of Greek wines, and sampling the delicious Greek food served by The Olive Grove on Regent Street, Cambridge where this intimate venue was perfect for the event. Matthew Boucher from Thirsty Cambridge, The Wine Store on Chesterton Road, pride themselves on carefully choosing great wines for their customers, with a fun and funky vibe. The remarkable lighting effects were achieved using products supplied by Pulsar Light of Cambridge, Pulsar were very pleased to be apart of this experiment which was part of eLuminate 2017. The Restless Temple in constant motion
Penny Saunders' 'Restless Temple' is a sculpture designed to be in constant motion. Made up of fourteen hollow cedar columns with cores of tensioned steel, counterweighted by concrete weights and connected by an articulated framework, Restless Temple has been in development for almost fifteen years. In Saunders' own words, Restless is about 'flexibility in the face of the mighty forces of Nature', and sways freely in winds of up to 60mph. Rather than treating Restless Temple as a 'building' and using traditional uplighting on the exterior of the columns, Penny requested that I light the inner space of Restless, to create a sense of depth within the interior. Given its position at the top of a windy hill at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, it was also vital that the lighting was able to withstand the elements. I designed a scheme that lit both the Temple and the mechanism beneath it using 17 watt, 3,000K LED spotlights with a 45 degree beam angle. In the upper section, four

Pulsar were proud to support a local village community, who transformed a corner of the woods and an old railway hut into Santa's Grotto, providing something to remember for all who attended. “It’s magical!” said a little girl (unprompted) as she gazed up at me with shining eyes and a happy smile. And indeed it was magical. The night was dry (and not too cold), as families and friends arrived from all directions to await Santa’s arrival, heralded by the switching on of the lights. The Glow Trail stretched invitingly through the woodland. The Christmas Tree with its hundreds of twinkling bright white lights contrasted with a backdrop of trees in ever changing colours. Peace doves fluttered in the trees. Gifts on a stall glittered brightly in the lights. Log fires glowed in the darkness. And at the centre, Santa’s Grotto, lit with a warm. welcoming glow, while inside, beautiful Christmassy decorations decked the walls. A queue of excited children quickly formed to visit
Campaign for Fair Warranties: The fight continues
Campaign for Fair Warranties: Pulsar's M.D. reading our - No Nonsense Warranty! at Lux Live 2016. In the special panel discussion, manufacturers, customers and the team from Lux’s Campaign for Fair Warranties to assess the state of customer protection in the lighting industry. Speaker(s): Brian Pohl of Pulsar Light, David Mooney of Atkins, Gordon Routledge of Lux, Mark O'Connor of Saturn LED, Michael Schrempp of Munich RE LED manufacturers sometimes make bold lifespan claims about their products and the reliability of these claims often rests on the quality of the luminaire. Warranties should protect consumers from poor product performance, but in the lighting industry warranties are not always fair and can be misleading. In some cases warranties dramatically overstate the likely lifespan of their products. A ten-year warranty, for example, does not take into account the complications of long-term LED operation and wouldn’t be offered by a reliable company. Sometimes

Pulsar Celebrate World Record 100,000 Hours Installation
“World Record: LED Installation - Longest Continuous Service” Pulsar celebrated their second World Record 100,000 installation with an event for staff and key customers new and historic. The team at Pulsar, has over 700 years collective experience of product design, manufacturing and long term testing. This would not have been achieved without the great team behind the name – Pulsar. The ChromaStrip, which was designed for external use, have withstood all the elements can throw at them for more than 11 years. Demonstrating our ethos of reliability and longevity, the ChromaStrips have been continuously running ever since they were first switched on in 2004. Andrew Hilbert states: “Whilst the ‘headline’ is the longevity of the LED’s, it is the driver components that keep those LED’s operating. Each ChromaStrip2 has 30 LED’s and more than 40 driver components which have also operated for 100,000 hours. A luminaire is only as reliable as it’s least
4 Signs that it’s time to change your lights!
How many times have you seen a building with failed lights on the outside, or mismatching colours? Chances are that when the lights were first installed, it looked fantastic, but it’s probably long overdue a refit. In this article, we’ll look at 4 different ways to tell that a lighting installation needs updating. Failures Sooner or later, all luminaires will fail. Sometimes, depending on the installation, it won’t be that noticeable if a few fixtures have failed, but often there will be gaps in the lighting scheme or details that are not illuminated. Even worse, with colour mixing LED fixtures, a single channel can fail which means that the luminaire will be on the wrong colour- imagine a situation where red and green channels are being mixed to create amber, but the red channel has failed on one fixture so one of the lights is green instead. Light Output Dropping Over time, all types of lights drop in output; the lifetime of LED fixtures is usually measured to
